New Contest Rewards the Best Breakup Stories
The classic website, BitterSlut.com, invites you to rant and rave,
snivel and whine in a contest to find the bitterest breakup stories.
It's an open call for anyone who's gone through a bad breakup and lived
to tell about it. If love has left you more bitter than sweet, here's
a chance to do something about it and come out a winner. A new BitterWinner
will be chosen monthly from submissions of horror stories, wacky breakups,
psycho sitings, and sweet revenge.
We've all been through it: the pain, the sorrow, the confusion, the
relief. Breakups are just part of life. One way to get through it with
your mental health intact is to let it all out, according to BitterSlut.com
founder, Tiffany Smith. Five years ago, she was recovering nicely from
being dumped when her ex inexplicably called her a BitterSlut. "I
wasn't bitter and I was monogamous," says Smith, "so at first
I was more puzzled than anything. When I told my friends about it, they
thought it was really funny. So it was with humor that I did what any
self-respecting graphic designer would do, I built a website and named
it BitterSlut.com."
Building a website and telling the world about her breakup was cathartic
for Smith, but she didn't expect the avalanche of response. "I
was completely shocked by the number of people who not only visited
the site, but talked about their situations on the bulletin board. Here
I was venting on there for my own personal therapy and suddenly I had
all kinds of people telling their own stories and topping my experience
by a long shot!"
Visitors to BitterSlut.com often share intimate details of their breakups
that could make you think twice about jumping back in the dating pool.
Smith prefers to look at the lighter side of breakups. "I just
want to laugh about it," she says.
But some people do ask serious questions about sex and love and how
to get out of bad relationships. For them, Reverend Love (yes, she's
a real Reverend) offers straight answers and common sense advice on
the website. "I try not to lecture or tell others what to do,"
says the good Reverend." Instead, I try to help them recognize
and examine their own bad patterns, so that they can forge healthier
relationships. I'm no therapist by any means, but I've had my share
of stupid, destructive relationships. Now if I could only take my own
advice!"
Smith thinks the best way to move beyond a breakup is to spill your
guts. "Come to the site and let us hear your story. Don't be mean
though, comic relief is better than bad karma."
To enter the contest, go to the contest page
and submit your favorite story of love gone wrong. Winning stories will
be published on the website and BitterWinners will receive BitterWear
t-shirts, hats and, of course, global notoriety.
